Artificial intelligence and Machine learning are two very hot topics right now, became a part of everyday life but that doesn’t mean we understand them well.
Do you know the difference between machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)? They are not the same thing, but the perception that they are can make confusion. If you are hoping to use AI or ML in your business, it’s important to know which one to focus on. So I thought it would be helpful to write an article on this topics.
In simple language, Artificial Intelligence is the ability of machines to think and learn, carry out the task in such a way that we would consider “smart”.
Machine Learning is based on the idea that we can build machines to process data and learn on their own, without human help.
The concept of Artificial Intelligence really solidified with the earliest computers. While these computers not making their own decisions, but they are “logical machine” that was able to remember information and make calculations.
However, technology has gotten much more advanced since then, so our ability to make brain-like machine advanced too. In the past few decades, we have also developed a better understanding of how our brain actually works. The more we understand these things, the more the approach to AI changes.
AI devices designed to act intelligently classified into one of two groups, applied or general.
The first is Applied Artificial Intelligence, this is the most common form of AI. It includes everything from intelligently trade stocks and shares, or maneuver an autonomous vehicle would fall into this category.
The other is the Generalized Artificial Intelligence, this ai is most difficult to create. This AI would be capable of handling all kinds of different tasks, just like us, but this area that has led to the development of Machine Learning.
ML is the subset of Artificial Intelligence in the field of computer science. It has developed two breakthroughs in the AI field.
One of this was the realization, rather than teaching computers everything they need to know about the world and how to carry out tasks and give them the information needed to complete those tasks.
The other breakthrough was the invention of the internet – the huge increase in the amount of digital information being generated, stored and made available for analysis that had never been seen before.
From these two breakthroughs, it cleared that instead of teaching machines to do things, a better goal was to design them to think for themselves and allow them to access the mass information which is available online so they can learn themselves.

Both Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning can have valuable business applications. Deciding which one is best for your company it totally depends on what your needs are.
